报告人简介:

Sang-Il Choi received his Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry from the KAIST (2011). After his postdoctoral research in the Xia group at the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, he joined the Kyungpook National University in 2015 as an associate professor. He is the recipient of the 2018 POSCO TJ Park Science Fellowship and the 2023 Prime Minister's Citation of Korea. His research interests include the design and synthesis of nanomaterials and exploration of their applications in water electrolysis including hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction, and electro-catalysis related to hydrogen fuel cell and CO2 reduction reaction.

报告摘要:

The catalyst surface has been designed to accelerate or inhibit the rate of oxidation/reduction of chemicals to obtain the desired products. Recently, various nanoscale catalysts have been developed, and studies on chemical reactions on their surfaces have been extensively conducted. In this presentation, the role of nanoscale catalysts to accelerate the rate of core reactions such as HER and OER for alkaline water electrolysis systems will be discussed. In particular, by engineering the fine surface of the nanoscale catalyst physicochemically, new catalytic effects, such as controlling the surface energy of the active sites, increasing the reaction rate through the introduction of a hetero reaction sites, and controlling the surface oxidation state through the introduction of a dopant, have been derived. Finally, the surface engineering effect of the catalysts on alkaline water electrolyzers will be discussed.
